Hi all
I thought I'd post this as it could be handy for some.

I found this whois script and edited it to fit my site but, the best part is when people whois a domain it gives the result with all sorts of info and a register button you can set it to your affiliate link at VH so you get 30%.

I have demo:
http://encoderx.co.uk/whois/

Buy your domains/web space through the script and I get paid :D

It's in test mode yet as I have to add the headers...etc. and colour match so don't whine about it please :D

Feedback? Tia

It looks quite nice, and I could do with one of them. I like the register part very much :D

where'd you get that script then?

Your script works fine, but it is an automated script that breaches the VeriSign T&Cs, hence the warning notice that appears during a whois search.

The best way round this is to remove the 'Details' link, and simply show the Domain Name is NOT available.

Never looked  thanks for that pointer.

Can't I just change where it does the whois in the code or is this a breach of any whois like it is networksolutions.com

Hi SPC

It has some great uses if you want to offer them.

Yours gives the same warning as mine though but for some reason yours is below the domain details. Whos whois does yours use?

looking at both mjkerr's script and encoderz's, they both give details about domains, so if encoderz's script is going against verisign t&c's, does this mean mjkerr's script is too?

An afterthought here:
When VH start the new part where you can buy/control domains without buying webspace (becoming registrar) it'd be more uniformed. At the moment when they click register in my script they have to buy webspace and have VH as host - I have nothing wrong with that - but it's better options when VH become registrar as well :) Also will our affiliate code still work with registrar. Hope so I have high hopes of getting loads of custom with this whois script.

I think I'm right in thinking that

OK done with blending. I have changed the .com whois so the warning is below, looks better. Put a back button and my logo and the VH ads. Near perfection now. Just need a good domain name, thinking...thinking...still thinking...Zzzzzzzzz

icMyDomain.com looks a good bet - nobody has it in anything :D

A vision...

Perhaps you should start offering Domain Name Storage?

I charge a flat rate of £10 a year, which allows people to keep their Domain Name while they don't use it.

EncoderZ, now that you've changed the script around a little, does that mean it's now legal to use?

IMO offering WHOIS scripts for people to use is pointless if VeriSign and whoever else don't bloody allow it

While we are on about Domain Names...

It can some times be useful to choose words that start with :
b d f g k l

The reason being it is easier to see the defined words.
Take valuehostlounge and hostforum for example.
I am surprised that VH decided to change from VHlounge to Hforum, as the words are not as easily seen.
valuehost works well as the two words are easy to see.

This is a very subtle use of Domain Name and believe me it works when you look at the difference in traffic levels to Domain Names for the same company!

Another subtle use is the decision whether to retain the use of one Domain Name and provides sub-sections by the use of separate Domain Names, or sub-Domains.
VH have decided that their forum is on several different separate Domain Names, while other people simply make it a sub-Domain...
